Lesson Learned

I went running today for the first time in over two years. (Ok...there was a lot of walking involved.) I made one huge mistake though. I didn't eat first. When I got home I was struggling to breathe and sick to my stomach. To help with the breathing, I took a hot shower hoping the steam would open my asthmatic lungs. Then, I ate some soup. Then, I threw up the soup. I felt queezy and light headed for quite a while after that. I tried eating a candy cane. (Yes, there was still on e in the house. Don't judge.) It helped a bit with the light head, but not the tummy. Finally, I gave in and made myself a hamburger on toast hoping it didn't make it worse. I feel SO much better now. What did I learn from this? Don't run on an empty stomach. (I'll eat something lite first next time.)

My Walk

My husband an I made a goal about 3 years ago to walk/hike around Barr Lake. We started a few time. The first time was with the kids. They started complaining about a mile into it, so we turned around and stopped at the various bird watching spots on the way back to the car. The following year we went out in October to enjoy the fall colors (we still need to make it out to the mountains for this).  We forgot that the lake would be basically drained and didn't realize parts of the trail would be closed. Again, we only made it one or two miles and headed back. We promised ourselves and each other we would do this "someday." We both enjoy hiking and being outside. We just didn't make it a priority.
I am happy to announce that yesterday we accomplished this goal! We went about 9 miles in 3.5 hours. Our feet hurt. Our legs hurt. My hands were so swollen I couldn't bend my fingers. But we made it!
